Showering with Seizures

People don’t realize that seizures can prevent people from doing the most basic of things. Take showering and bathing.  If you have the types of seizures that prevent you from controlling your body, it is dangerous for you to be in water … even in the shower! … without someone being there for you.

Think about this: you are bathing even in just a couple inches of water. You have a tonic clonic (grand mal) seizure that causes your body to twist.  You could end up face down in the water, unable to move your mouth and nose out of the water.

Or a shower … you just soaped up and begin rinsing when you have a seizure where you lose control, and end up slipping and falling in the tub.  You hit your head on the faucet and then on the tub’s side on your way down. The shower is still pelting you with water, and you can’t move out of the way or do anything to stop the bleeding from the gash you got from the faucet.

Just … something to think about.

Don’t be paranoid.  Just be safe.  Have someone in your home when you clean up … not necessarily in the bathroom.  But please, don’t lock the door. And if you feel a seizure coming on, turn off the water and sit down immediately!!!

Be safe.
