Superman and a Seizure

My son is autistic. He was diagnosed one month before his first tonic clonic seizure. And, as most autistics do, he gets obsessed about certain things. For him, it is movies and videos and anything relating to them. Despite his many brain surgeries and the stroke this year, causing a big ole Swiss cheese in his brain and memories, he can't remember if he took his pills but he can tell you any and everything about certain movies.

So...Superman. He has seen every Superman movie and most related tv series. 8-9 years ago he decided he wanted to see where Superman worked.  Metropolis.  The Daily Planet.

You get the drift.

I explained that it doesn't really exist...not like that...But you know obsession.

Eight or nine years, he has been asking to go to Metropolis.  In Illinois.

I finally gave in this year. After nearly losing him this year, I wanted to bring him a little joy.

So last week we spent five nights and six days in Metropolis IL.  I took his pic with a giant Superman.  We visited the Superman Museum -twice. He posed for a pic with the Daily Planet brass globe thingy. He got Superman underwear, socks, postcards and Kryptonite candy (green rock candy).

He loved it.

But I was exhausted, and he was getting crabby being on the go so much. We did nothing on Christmas day.

He was on his hotel bed, watching videos, and I was on mine, reading. I heard him moan and looked over. His eyes told me get over there quick. I jumped up and he moaned through clenched teeth, "I can't move".

It was a tonic seizure. Paralyzed, unable to move and no convulsions. He hadn't had one of these for about two years.

I timed it as I held his hand. 40 seconds before he could move, starting with the pinky on his right hand.

We talked afterwards. No aura. No trigger. Nothing unusual before. And right as rain within minutes.

Just one of those puzzling things.

Yeah, we came home the next day. Both his neurosurgeon and his epileptologist know.

Hoping for a better 2020.
